Choices are even harder to make when there's something holding you back. A negative thought or a feeling of doubt can really stop someone in their tracks. Everything we do involves a decision but most things are so minor they hardly bother us. Things like ordering your usual cup of coffee isn't scary because you already know the outcome, it's pretty unlikely to get a cup of chai latte when you order a flat white from the same barista everyday.
From the age of 18 onwards, I honestly could not have foreseen how much things were going to change. How much I was going to change. I always tell people that if you don't know what your gut feelings are telling you, it's either because you don't listen to them or trust yourself enough.
Most people stay in unhappy situations because they're scared to take that step that will change their lives. In fact, some people become quite comfortable with whatever undesirable situation they're in because they're scared to break away from familiarity. It sounds stupid, but how many people do you know who've stayed in unhappy relationships? Or at a job they're not passionate about? Or maybe even lead a life that was set by someone other than themselves?
You don't have to be the person that people expect you to be even if they mean a lot to you because at the end of the day, it's your life. You choose the kind of adventure you want to embark on. You're not obliged to make people understand your life choices. Trust me, most people aren't going to fall asleep thinking about where you're heading in life.
Don't be afraid to embark on something potentially life changing and more importantly, don't be afraid if you've changed in the process. Don't be afraid if the dreams you had yesterday disappeared overnight. Don't be upset if you can no longer relate to the group of friends you once thought you could never life without. A lot of things change as you're growing up, that's the only way you can become the best version of yourself.
So if tomorrow you decide you want to become a lion and ditch being a defenceless kitten, I hope you'll do what it takes to achieve that. ;)
